Course description:

Stylistics is a course that explores the relationship between language and literature. The course focuses on the interpretation of texts through the analysis of linguistic features such as syntax, semantics, and phonetics. Students will learn how to identify stylistic devices used by authors and how they contribute to the overall meaning of the text. The course lasts 17 weeks including two weeks for final exams and consists of 15 lectures and 30 practical classes. This course offers an introduction to the study of literary stylistics. This comprises three main activities: identifying specific linguistic features, analyzing these linguistically and interpreting their communicative function in the reading and understanding of the text.

 

Course aim and objectives:

The main objective of this course is to provide students with an understanding of the significance of stylistic analysis in literary interpretation. The course aims to equip students with the necessary skills to analyze a text using linguistic tools and to develop critical thinking skills that will enable them to appreciate the complexity of literary texts. By the end of the course, you should be able to give a general account of the main principles and procedures involved in describing the style of a text.
